What is it about Autumn?

It’s been a while since I’ve delved into the new knitting releases world. I had such a growing stash of projects and materials, that I had to reinstate the yarn embargo. That meant no pouring over beautiful skeins on Loveknitting or Loop. No Googling Brooklyn Tweed, Quince & Co. and Woolfolk. It also meant shutting my eyes as I scrolled through my Instagram feed, every time Melanie Berg, Melanie Hoffman or Andrea Mowry post oh-so-tempting knits…

Sonic Knits Christmas Kits with Fyberspates

I’m not even going to apologise for mentioning the ‘C’ word. I’ve already been knitting my Mum’s present for the last two weeks, so I’m fully in the pre-Christmas planning mode already! Get on board 🙂

If you’re struggling to find the perfect handmade gift for someone this year, I’d look no further. You all know I’m partial to a Sonic Knits kit – I’ve signed up for six months! And now I’m treated at the first of every month to a brand new set of knitting notions, British yarn and a great pattern to get stuck into.

Another year, the ‘BS meter’ and making more of Shortrounds

OK, this is going to be a longer post than normal and I really struggled to know whether or not this was the place to write about this. But I’ve wanted to share a bit more of me and my personality on here, and the two-year anniversary seems like the perfect place to begin! So if you’re with me for this one, it’s been a big year for both myself and Shortrounds, so here goes nothing.

(If you decide not to listen to me ‘waffle on’ you can also skip to the end for the cheeky celebration offer on both of my baby blanket patterns – available for the weekend!)

Rowan Fine Silk

Before I write any more, can we just take a moment to appreciate this perfect cobalt blue shade?! When I unwrapped this little beauty I took a full minute turning the ball of Rowan Fine Silk over and over in my hands just watching it change colour with the light. Like most silks this new Rowan yarn has a delicate sheen, but is combined with wool to give it a greater tensile strength than most silks I’ve worked with previously. Laughing Hens very kindly sent me a ball of this lovely yarn in its stunning ‘Peacock’ colourway to get creative with!
