Back on the blog: knitting plans, sustainable projects and wedding patterns

After an embarrassingly long hiatus (no really, let’s not count), I’m gently tiptoeing back into the Shortrounds blog. The past few years have been a lot, and that’s not to say I haven’t been knitting through it, but life most definitely got in the way. As it tends to. As it probably will again. But for now, I’m feeling the urge to write and share my little corner of this knitting world – I’ve got stories to tell, yarns to squish and knitspiration to share.

So what have I been up to these past four years?

  • We moved house. Again. Because clearly I enjoy a logistical challenge.
  • I got promoted in the ol’ 9-5 (hello, spreadsheets and strategy).
  • We began renovating said house… because apparently moving wasn’t quite enough chaos.
  • We weathered some incredibly hard times trying to grow our family.
  • In 2023 we welcomed our beautiful baby boy. (Reader, I cried.)
  • I knitted through the heartbreak, it was a solid part of the healing process.
  • And I watched (often in awe) as the knitting community expanded, morphed and embraced so many new faces and voices.

Somewhere in all that, Shortrounds seems like a distant memory, to the point it almost feels like it belonged to someone else. But recently, I’ve felt the pull to write again – to share what I’ve been making, what I’ve been discovering and what’s sparking my creativity. The world of knitting has exploded since I last posted (seriously, it’s wild out there), and there’s a lot to talk about.

So what’s coming up?

I’ve got a hearty list of blog posts and projects in the works, including:

  • Seasonal knitting inspiration – roundups of the best knitting patterns for spring, summer, autumn and winter, plus those tricksy in-betweeny periods we get so often here in the UK (a scarf in June? But of course).
  • A peek into my slightly bonkers quest to incorporate handknits into my wedding. (Yes, I’m getting married! Yes, I want to knit things! Yes, I may be unravelling emotionally and literally). Basically I’m drowning in a sea of bridal stoles, boleros, wraps, hair bows and ring pillows. I’ll be sharing what I find with you very soon.
  • Sustainable knitting. It’s high on the agenda for most knitters today – I’ll be exploring how to balance a love of making with the practicalities of buying materials, yarn stash size and the environmental impact.
  • Plenty of goodies on knitwear care, gifting, upcycling, notions I can’t live without, seaming tips, finishing tricks, tutorials I keep going back to… you get the idea.

It feels like the right time to rekindle this little blog of mine and invite you back in for a natter. So whether you’ve been here since the beginning or you’re new to Shortrounds – hello! I’m so glad you’re here.

This blog’s always been about more than just knit stitches. So if you’ve got stories, favourite patterns, new discoveries or just want to say hello, leave me a comment below. Let’s catch up!
